# Days before Norwood

Given our midnight delivery and Shannon's c-section our first day in the hospital with Barrett was largely spent navigating our exhaustion and excitement.

We spent some time observing Barrett in the morning while he was undergoing some minor procedures and then spent the majority of the afternoon with family gathered around him where we got to finally hold our baby for the first time. While this was a moment I don't wish delayed for anyone - it was all the more gratifying to finally hold and cuddle our newborn.

Much to our surprise we were contacted by the cardiac surgical team within 48 hours of Barrett's birth that he was an eligible surgical candidate for the [Norwood Procedure](https://www.barrettschram.com/hypoplastic-left-heart-syndrome/).

Due to Barrett's excellent vitals and some God-given scheduling interventions he is scheduled to receive this first open-heart surgery on 07-24-2026.
