The Norwood Procedure

"Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer" - Romans 12:12

Barrett's Norwood operation was an incredible success, and truly an answered prayer. There were no significant complications and his new single-ventricle heart will soon allow him to breathe and oxygenate his own blood unassisted.

The opportunity to have Barrett receive the surgery so soon after birth and the textbook execution of the procedure are incredible blessings on our family.

The recovery period after the Norwood is known as "Interstage" and presents significant risks and medical complexities, generally requiring 3-6 months of recovery time depending on the patient. Barrett will spend a portion of this time in the PCICU but will be discharged to our home for the remaining time upon meeting certain recovery criteria.

We are hopeful that we will be able to bring our baby boy home in the coming months and are immensely grateful for all the love, support, and prayers for our son. I pray that we may continue to share good news about his health and recovery in the short term as well.
